Making progress One Individual at a time!

STELLA AOKO`S STORY

Stella Aoko, a 33 year old single mother of two and a road accident survivor which left her with a visually impairment is all full of smile and praise to the grant from ANDY she received to start her cyber café business at Kibera which specializes in provision of internet surfing, photocopying, scanning, printing, lamination and binding. With an ICT background and a formal training on cyber management, she decided to quit her not well-paying job of running a retail kiosk.

She later joined sports for health project where she plays Table tennis. Through her involvement and commitment to the project, she benefited from various workshops and entrepreneurship training organized by ANDY. Her business which attracts an average number of ten customers in a single day has been a blessing in disguise as she is now able to cater for the needs of her two young children and herself.

JOHN ANDUGA`S STORY

“Life wasn’t smooth before I joined the sports for health project at ANDY, there was problem of rent and Persons with Disabilities cannot be able to do some menial jobs as would a non-disabled person, but after joining the programme, I am now able to socialize with my peers and earn respect from them, pay my bills on time and keep myself busy throughout the week.”
Previously, John worked as an untrained teacher, a profession which could not cater for his wife and parents; he later joined sports for health project back in 2011 and started practicing table tennis. His business which specializes in supplying chicken and chicken products in hotels and restaurants has seen him win quite a number of tender supplies from his clients

On a good week, he says, the business earns him an average of KES 500/= per week and it’s a business he has no regrets in venturing into and looks forward to its expansion with time
