East Africa Youth Venture Intern and other Positions at Ashoka EA

East Africa Youth Venture Intern:

Ashoka East Africa is looking for an inspired team player, self motivated, self starter youth interested in
social entrepreneurship, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, with minimum supervision, and
good attention to details to join its Youth Venture team.
Youth Venture is a program that identifies supports and nurtures young people into the world of changing
making as social entrepreneurs (http://eastafrica.ashoka.org/youth-venture).
The Youth Venture Intern will work with the team to: Coordinate outreach with youth organizations,
researching opportunities for youth venture across East Africa, and developing business development
materials. The Youth Venture Intern will gain substantive, hands-on field experience in East Africa citizen
sectors, youth engagement, and program development. Internship length is 3 months minimum. Start
date ASAP.
Key skills required:
 Time-management and interpersonal skills
 Previous field experience with youth or community organizing
 Entrepreneurial track record - comfortable with finding creative solutions to barriers, proactively seeking business opportunities
 Analytical research skills
 Operating MS office packages
 English and Swahili fluency
 Marketing experience is a plus
 1-2 years work experience highly preferable

The Venture Program in East Africa is responsible for the search and selection of Ashoka Fellows from across the region including
countries: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Ethiopia.
Position: Venture Program Assistant
- Full-time (40 hours/week)

Professional Requirements
- University degree in a relevant field preferably in social or human sciences

Responsibilities
1) Meeting election targets cost effectively, efficiently and on time.
2) Building a diverse, engaged and well supported nominator network across the region to
generate a high quantity and quality of nominations for the Ashoka Fellowship.
3) Pursuing independent research to identify and connect with potential new Ashoka fellows
4) Collecting and reviewing Fellowship nominations and applications and carrying out due diligence
including sector mapping, media research,site visits and reference checksfor all candidates to
develop a comprehensive understanding of their work within the context of Ashoka¡¦s selection
criteria.
5) Preparing well written profiles for all candidates for submission to second opinion reviewers and international board of Ashoka.
6) Organizing and managing all aspects of regional selection panels for fellowship candidates
7) Pipeline management to aid integration of unsuccessful venture candidates with other programs
in Ashoka.
8) Organizing periodic ¡§round table¡¨ conversations to engage nominators, fellows, potential
candidates, partners and staff of Ashoka around emerging issues and trends across East Africa¡¦s
development sector.
9) To liaise with the staff from the global venture team as well as other program areas as and when
is required.
10) To contribute to the East African program¡¦s fundraising goals and in any case work with the
program manager to raise money for the venture program in East Africa.
11) To report to the Venture Program Manager and the East Africa Regional Representative.

Position :Marketing Assistant

The responsibilities: You will be required to (1) develop marketing material, (2) help organize round-tables among Ashoka Fellows and the citizen sector, (3) build and manage Ashoka’s online presence and Fellowship communications, and (4) creatively and strategically add to our array of publications and design templates, (5) mapping key fields and sectors, writing blog posts, media alerts, and reports.
Skills required:
• Self-starter; ability to carry-out projects with minimum supervision

• Ability to work on multiple projects at one time
• Ability to work on under pressure and to deadlines

The Marketing Assistant will gain substantive, hands-on experience in the East African citizen sector and leading social entrepreneur networks. This is a paid, full-time position 40 Hours per week, based in Nairobi, Kenya.
